Sly vs. Russia

Rocky IV was on last night, and the discussion in the room turned toward the Russia = "the enemy" idea that most of us grew up with in the 70-80's. It was very clear back then, and movies and TV didn't even pretend to hide it. Even if the bad guy WASN'T Russian, he still looked Russian. I am glad that we had men like Sylvester Stallone and Chuck Norris to fight WW3 for us.

Kids now no nothing of our sworn enemy - Communist Russia. Fall of the Berlin wall? Today's High-schoolers weren't even born yet. Siberia? No longer useful as a threatening destination in punishments. Ivan Drago? He'd be in the NBA now. Maybe he already is . . .

The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul

“I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.” -Douglas Adams, novelist

"All reality once started as dreams." -Me, just me.

"Don't ever quote yourself." -Mrs. Kent, 8th grade English teacher

It may be true that half the things we wish would happen will never actually do so, but I think that it's difficult to get what you want if you don't do anything about it. The journey towards your dream will wander and you may fly askew, but you'll find that Mr. Adams was probably right. Mrs. Kent probably was too. If so, that's 2 out of three - not bad.

I find I'm like most people, dreaming and wishing this time of year away. It's easy when there's so much night and so little day. Perhaps it would be good to start a new journey now, while I'm still waking and before I forget them all.

The most popular journal on LJ

This is it. It's true. Well, one of the most popular I'm sure. Actually it's been a while since I posted, so maybe top 10, or top 25. Top 100 without a doubt

Anyway. Happy new year everyone. Here's to bigger and better in 2007.

I had a ton of sushi yesterday to kick off the new year in lucky Japanese style - though most Japanese probably wouldn't approve of my dessert sushi. The recipe is simple if you want to try it for yourself: Mango, Kiwi, Apple, and Cream Cheese wrapped in sushi rice and soy bean paper. MMMM....
